Ashley Cole Fined £90,000 For Twitter Outburst Towards FA

The FA have confirmed that Ashley Cole has been fined £90,000 for his controversial tweet, after admitting to a charge of bringing the game into disrepute in a non-personal hearing.

The Chelsea left-back was also warned over his future conduct, as the English governing body seek to crack down on inappropriate use of social media among footballers.

Cole's charge is in relation to his angry tweet in response to the official disciplinary report on the John Terry racism case, when the England international wrote: "Hahahahaa, well done #fa I lied did I, #BUNCHOFT***S"

Jonathan Approves 3,642 Ex-Militants Inclusion In Amnesty Programme

President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the inclusion of 3,642 ex- Niger Delta militants in the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

The new figure brings the total number of ex-militants undergoing reformation under the programme to 30,000.

It was learnt that the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, had forwarded a memo to the President seeking his approval for inclusion of more ex-agitators in the programme.

The President was said to have approved Kuku’s request on Thursday and also instructed that the demobilisation exercise at the Obubra camp, Cross River State should commenced immediately.

Turkey Bombs Syria After Family Of Five Was Killed By Syria Mortar Attack

Turkish armed forces have launched artillery attacks on a Syrian area near its border in response to a mortar attack which killed five members of the same family in southeastern Turkey.

Turkish state media has said that Turkey resumed cross-border artillery strikes at Syrian targets on Thursday.

A landslide buried 18 Chinese elementary school students studying during a public holiday Thursday to make up for classes disrupted by recent earthquakes in southwest China, state media reported.
Rescuers scoured through rubble at a village in Yunnan Province after the landslide struck the school and two houses, according to Xinhua news agency.

Jonathan Ready To Contest ICJ Judgment On Bakassi

President Goodluck Jonathan has set up a committee to look at the option of appealing the judgment of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the Bakassi peninsula.
The decision was reached at a meeting between the President, the leadership of the National Assembly and other stakeholders at the State House in Abuja.
The meeting which started late Wednesday night ended in the early hours of Thursday.
Cross River’s governor, Liyel Imoke, told State House correspondents after the meeting that the committee would also consider how to take care of the displaced people of Bakassi.
Imoke who did not disclose the composition of the committee said it would work within a specified time.
Nigeria has an Oct. 9 deadline to appeal the ICJ ruling which ceded the oil-rich Bakassi peninsula to neighbouring Cameroon was delivered on Oct. 10, 2002.

Presidential Subsidy Committee Members Arraigned For Bribery

Four members of the Presidential Committee on Fuel Subsidy Verification, who allegedly received gratification from the Integrated Oil and Gas Ltd., on Wednesday appeared in court on three counts.
News Agency of Nigeria reports that the committee members were arraigned before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, along with three executive officers of the oil company, who allegedly offered them N1.5m as gratification.
The committee members are Buhari Ganiyu (37), Alalade Abioye (30), Oni Oluwanishola (34) and Chukwujekwu Akabueze, whose age was not stated.
Alalade and Akabueze are women.

Lagos Won’t Allow Other States’ Number Plates –Govt

Lagos State Government on Wednesday said it would no longer allow the use of vehicles with number plates from other states of the federation for commercial transportation in the state.

It also advised residents with private vehicles to change to the state’s number plates to reflect the fact that they are living in Lagos.

The Director, Vehicle Inspection Office, Mr, Gbolahan Toriola, said the measure was meant to achieve “sanity, standard, safety and security” as stipulated by the road traffic law.

Exchange of gunshots between the police and some dare-devil armed robbers yesterday at Iseyin, Oyo State led to the death of three persons including two traffic wardens.

An ambush in Sudan’s western Darfur region killed four Nigerian peacekeepers and wounded eight, the UN-African Union Mission (UNAMID) said on Wednesday.

Couple Nabbed With Indian Hemp Worth N3.2 Million

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Seme border on Tuesday said that it has arrested a couple (names withheld) for allegedly importing 30 kg of Cannabis (aka Indian hemp) worth N3.2 million into the country.
Mr Othman Salleh, the Customs Area Comptroller, in Seme said that the couple was arrested with the drug in a KIA saloon car with registration number KST 160 AG at Gbaji-Yeke checkpoint.
The female suspect was arrested with a baby on her back while the husband was partially disabled.
“Customs operatives working at Gbaji-Yeke checkpoint intercepted and arrested a couple for importing 30 kg of Cannabis Sativa into the country from Benin Republic,” he said.
