Gombe State receives one of the least allocations in the federation, but the infrastructure put in place by the state government has made it one of the fastest developing states in the country, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly has said.
The Speaker, Hon. Inuwa Garba, who is also Chairman of the Nigeria Speakers Conference, disclosed this at a sensitisation and capacity building workshop on “Fiscal Responsibility Law”, held in Gombe, the state capital.
The Speaker said that Gombe State government was able to utilise the little allocations received from federal allocation to embark on development projects that have been transforming the state in only one year.
He said this has been achieved as a result of the efforts of Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo led administration, which operates an open door policy and was committed to run a government based on transparency, rule of law, accountability and good governance.
Hon Inuwa Garba stated that Gombe State could be the first state in the country to sign the Fiscal Responsibility bill into law. He said the law was passed by the House on Jan. 26, 2012, and assented to on Feb. 2, 2012, by Governor Dankwambo, in order to ensure transparency and accountability in governance.
