Policeman Kills 'Okada' Rider In Kaduna

There was tension in Kaduna after a  policeman from the Police Mobile Force (MOPOL) killed a commercial motorcyclist, popularly called okada rider, at the Kaduna Stadium round about.
The situation immediately generated heavy tension around Kaduna metropolis when other ‘okada’ riders mobilized themselves and blocked the major roads, but they were immediately dispersed when heavily armed police men regrouped.
When contacted, the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police Adefemi Adenaike, confirmed the incident, and  affirmed that the police authorities would prosecute the policeman.
According to him, “We’re doing something about the police man that killed the okada man. The culprit will be charged to court for murder. The law must take its full course.

“I have already briefed the Inspector General of Police who has given me the mandate to go ahead with full investigation into the matter. We don’t train officers to kill innocent people in the society and take the law into their hands.” He, however, appealed to law abiding citizens of the state to go about their normal activities.
Eye witnesses who spoke to our correspondent at the scene of the incident confirmed that the okada rider was deliberately killed by the yet-to-identified policeman, who shot the boy from inside their moving truck.
The okada rider, identified as Umar Danmichika, was shot while sitting on his motorcycle, waiting to collect money from a passenger he just dropped when he met his untimely death.
An eyewitness told correspondent that “the boy was deliberately shot because he was not on the road. He was just by the road side, parked and sitting on the motorcycle; so how could he have committed any offence that will warrant him be killed like that. Infact he died instantly.”
